From Our Friends at Texas Neighborhood Coalition:
STATE LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Contact the TX House Land & Resource Management Committee
Call now until Thursday at 11 am
to oppose HB 2797 and HB 3172
These bills would destroy single-family neighborhoods.
Thank you for your continued support as we fight a slew of anti-neighborhood bills. Here is our call to action for this week:
On Thursday, two bills—HB 2797 (the frat house bill) and HB 3172 (the multi-family on religious property bill)—will be heard in the House Land & Resource Management Committee. These bills would kill single-family zoning, allowing frat-style housing and high-density apartments in your neighborhood--with no local zoning approvals.
Starting now through Thursday before 11 AM:
1. Call the Land Management Committee Members to oppose both of these bills. See below for details about each bill and a sample call script. If you don't reach a live person, leave a voice message.
2. Submit a public comment online for each bill (instructions below).
Sample Call Script:
"Hi, my name is [Your Name]. I am a supporter of the Texas Neighborhood Coalition, and I strongly oppose HB 2797 and HB 3172, which would wreck single-family neighborhoods. I urge the representative to vote NO on both bills."

More about HB 2797 and HB 3172:
HB 2797, sponsored by Rep. Cody Vasut (R) HD-25 Angleton, eliminates city rules on how many unrelated people can live in a single-family home—opening the door for frat houses, private dorms, and investor-owned boarding houses in residential areas.
HB 3172, (companion to SB 854) sponsored by Committee Chair Gates, allows developers to bypass zoning by building apartments on religious land, with only 5-foot setbacks, up to 3 stories, and no off-street parking requirements—even in neighborhoods without public transit.
