President’s Message
Isn’t it great when elected representatives get the message and respond with action? Such is the satisfaction the homeowners of the City of Plano feel in response to the ruling on Short-Term Rentals in suburban neighborhoods. The members of the STR Task Force and the city staff and council members worked together to arrive at a plan announced at the last Council meeting. Congratulations and thanks to 22 members of the Texas Neighborhood Coalition for leading the way in crafting the following points into writing:
Despite a vote of 5-3 by P&Z recommended a pre-selected, slightly modified plan, but Council strengthened it with stronger safeguards for the community standards with a 7-0 vote.
Existing STR’s are grandfathered in but a registration process is in place to govern existing properties.
All STR’s are governed by regulations that help enforce safety standards and uniformity of governance and violations adversely affect renewal and cost of registration ($300 is registration fee).
Proximity to hotels and other STR’s is a key factor.
Boarding houses are permitted in heritage districts.
Existing ban on STR’s ends on May 15, 2024, and new regulations, enforcement and implementation begins.
Refer to the city website for further details.
