President’s Message
Greetings and welcome summer!
A lot has happened in the last 30-45 days: We have four new Plano City Councilpersons (Steve Levine, Bob Kehr, Chris Downs, Vidal Quintanilla), and Mayor Muns was re-elected. We also have two new Trustees of Collin College (Justin Adcock and Staci Weaver, with Raj Menon re-elected) (Photos below.) serving us in those respective branches of municipal government. Additionally, the new PISD Trustee is Sam Johnson, and returning members are Nancy Humphrey, Lauren Tyra, and Elisa Klein.
After the swearing-in ceremony for the new Council, on Thursday, May 29th, the City of Plano hosted a special gathering to thank outgoing Council members for their service, so Anthony Ricciardelli, Kayci Prince, Shelby Williams, and Rick Smith were feted in Council chambers. Photos below.
The new Council has had two meetings and voted on several important issues. The most significant of these is a financial issue that won’t please many fiscal conservatives and involves the city’s purchase of two tracts of land from PISD under terms of written agreements: 5.3 acres of land where Davis Elementary School sits for $3,050,000 and 9.5 acres for the site of Forman Elementary School for $5,375,000. Both of these sites were formerly schools that PISD opted to close, tear down the buildings constructed thereon and sell the land to the city. Selling in an open market was not pursued. So now, the taxpayers of PISD who paid for this property and financing for many years are now paying for it once again with this sale, at the expense of City of Plano taxpayers of the City of Plano for the same land. This controls the disposition of school property and eliminates the possibility of a sale to possible competition, doesn’t it?
Voter turnout was so poor that 11% of voters approved all of the Bond Propositions totaling roughly $644,000,000. Once again, the government closest to you was compelled to commit 100% of citizens to huge new obligations by a minority of voters.
Former Councilman Williams has promised to keep up his recap of City Council meetings for the near future. His transparency in office has ben remarkable and he has set a new standard for our city. His most recent post can be watched HERE.
In spite of this legislative session in Austin having been one where anti-neighborhood bills came from many directions, and attempts at changing zoning to a statewide government responsibility, due to grassroots efforts, in large part by Texas Neighborhood Coalition, multiple bills that would have wrecked neighborhoods across the state were defeated.

Collin College Report
by Cathie Alexander, Collin College Board of Trustees
Thank you to everyone who voted in the recent election. Collin College Board election was a great success. Thank you all.
I have good, better, and best news to share with you. The good news is the results of our election adding Justin Adcock and Staci Weaver to the Board of Trustees.
The better news is that over 1000 students were graduated from Collin College in the past month with associate degrees and program certifications. This is Collin College’s biggest graduating class yet.
The best news is that the Collin College Board of Trustees has retained its financially conservative focus by leaving tuition rates the same as last year and not changing the property tax rate for our Collin County citizens. Collin College gives us a BIG bang for our buck.
Watch for construction updates in following PCC newsletters. Currently, the Spring Creek campus is getting a much-needed new roof and adding medical-related classrooms and labs on campus.
The Courtyard campus will be the new and improved location for the cosmetology and medical massage curriculums as well as the new home for campus security. Plano is blessed to hold two campuses to serve us.
Thank you to outgoing City Council members for their service. You will note that photos of Anthony Ricciardelli are missing here as the photographer erred in execution of the task.
