December 2023 Newsletter
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Making your voice heard is a common encouragement you will get from these pages and at our general meetings, and it most certainly pays off. Judi Neal wrote an article recently that was included in our newsletter about her experiences at Board of Trustees of PISD meetings in regard to library books with sordid language and sexual content that is unacceptable for children in a public school library. As a result of parental involvement at the October board meeting (and prior meetings), the Trustees have made changes to the policy. At the following meeting held in November, parents were in attendance in good numbers again, but the overwhelming number of parents attending were there in response to recent international events in the Middle East. A small number of parents with differing opinions on the issue became highly agitated at one point and the room was cleared. Ultimately the meeting was concluded shortly thereafter, and the meeting adjourned; however, this incident suggests making your voice heard is alive and well.
Speaking of making your voice heard, there is a zoning case that requires your thoughtful review and input in upcoming meetings. The rezoning case for the property at WILLOW BEND MALL was to have its first public hearing at the Plano Zoning Commission Monday evening, December 4th at 7:00; however, that discussion has been moved to January 16, 2024. This case is 2023-005 and the plans can be reviewed in the Zoning cases on the city’s website. The owner has proposed adding a significant number of apartment units and an office building on the existing property along the exterior perimeter. You can make your voice heard in a portion of the zoning case online where citizen input is permitted. With the addition of roughly 1,200 high density apartments to that campus, homeowners and taxpayers need to give the City staff and representatives their opinions.
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.
